Peña de Bernal
Mexico • Sierra Gorda • Central Mexican Plateau
One of the world’s tallest monoliths and classic example of Mexican dayhike: from the main drag in a Puebla Magica™, you walk along busy pedestrian street filled with vendors hawking artesanal Chinese tchotchkes, Panama hats, and most importantly… micheladas. Lots of micheladas. Esquites and other street food as well. Once you get to the actual park there’ll be one last guy with a cooler of water and gatorades, then about an hour so climb to the top if you make it that far. Many will not, presumably due to the micheladas. Don’t have great pics and was underselling it by ragging on Mexican hiking culture but it’s actually pretty cool.
